Situated in a cosy townhouse in a busy shopping district, this 18 room hotel spread over four floors combines a splash of Italian drama with the hibernation-friendly qualities of a cave.
Each of the rooms are slightly different bringing an individual spark to each room, without going overboard into OTT theme-park territory. The colour scheme is earthy and restrained, enlivened by say, a pink tulip chair or a red shower screen. We like the playful contrasts in texture between, say, an antique timber armoir and a shiny lacquer bathtub.
What We Love
Despite the designer credentials, the staff were unpretentious and welcoming, always a plus. The lobby area downstairs doubles as a breakfast room and coffee space – it’s on the small side, but a decent place to hang out. Ideal for: a winter’s sojourn, plotting the launch of your intellectually-minded fashion label.
Room to Improve
Our one quibble is that the rooms are somewhat on the dark side – not exactly suited for the warmer months. Also, the rooms are not exactly set up for working.
Note that some rooms do look into courtyards – so do request a street view if this is likely to bug you. (If you luck out, keep in mind that a courtyard room at this hotel doesn’t necessarily translate into dark and dismal, the courtyard is reasonably expansive and the adjoining buildings are painted in light attractive shades so your room should be fairly light in any case.)
