For a traditional vibe, this warm and eclectic Ottoman-style apartment in a 19th century building will give you an authentic and very civilised address in Istanbul. The apartment has been restored by its New York owners to create a space as clean and welcoming as it is dramatic and original. It sleeps 2-4, has mod cons like Wi-fi and air conditioning in some rooms for when really Istanbul heats up. The English-speaking manager lives nearby so he’ll be around to greet you and help if any issues arise.
Taksim Square is probably a little on the hot side right now, but generally speaking the location places you in the heart of the action – in a good way! The major shopping and entertainment area of Istiklal Caddessi is just close by – you’re also easy walking distance to public transport including the metro, ferries and trams heading towards the tourist area of Sultanahmet.
What We Love
We love the antiques, art, traditional crafts and textures that lend the flat a real sense of character and occasion. The large and generous walnut dining table should inspire a lavish feast. All up, good spot to practise the traditional Turkish art of reading coffee grounds!
To be on the safe side, bring ear-plugs – the apartment is in a busy area and there’s a traffic intersection on the corner – this can translate into a lot of car-honking at all hours. Note: there is a minimum stay of 3 nights – discounts can be negotiated for long-term rental.
