In a rare instance of global concensus, the pundits are agreed that Berghain/Panorama Bar is the consistently the most insane dance club in Berlin, if not the world. Situated in a former power station the club is famed for its industrial surrounds, intense yet tolerant atmosphere, long-endurance gigs, long queues across an industrial wasteland and fickle bouncers who can make or break your night on a whim. Not for the faint-hearted. Rumour has it the queue eases up after 8am on Sunday morning…but don’t hold us to it.
If this all sounds a little, well, difficult legendary club Weekend is relatively more accessible and offers a few traveller-friendly perks. Located over several floors in a high-rise on Alexanderplatz it has a rooftop terrace which comes in handy during the summer months and awesome views onto Berlin’s TV Tower.
If the notion of clubbing simply makes you feel tired and has you reaching for your ear-plugs check out Trust, the hipster-ish off-spring of nightclub owners from Weekend and the glam-club Cookie. More of a bar than a club Trust is a fun place in Mitte with a speakeasy aesthetic where the beer is alledgedly served in a brown paper bag and entry is free.
