Palm Springs is like an open air museum devoted to Modernist architecture. Every year locals celebrate the genre with a week long event at the Palm Springs Modernist Week. The real drawcard here are the tours of private houses – keep your eyes on their website for rare openings of architectural masterpieces. (If you see something you fancy, don’t hesitate because tickets to these sought-after events sell out fast). Along on the menu: star-studded lectures, film screenings, bus and bike tours, social shenanigans and a chance to shoot the breeze (block) with your fellow architectural nerds. While the event aims to celebrate and nurture appreciation of modernism, the festival also fosters dialogue with contemporary design and issues of sustainable living in this desert environment.
If you’re planning to be in town for the event we recommend booking accommodation early – our ideas should get you started.
