Palm Springs… Yeah! Home of music lovers, architecture lovers, and plain lovers!
The perfect winter hangout is going through some sort of revival, with loads of creative LA-siders buying their mid-Century modern and manically renovating it. The upside is that there’s now loads of tastefully renovated modernist houses available for short term holiday rentals. And what a great way to experience Palm Springs in style!
Our pick is this classic ‘Alexander’ home – a mid-century modern 1959 Palmer & Krisel house built by the local Alexander Construction Company.
The 3-bedroom house is clean, bright and airy and it overlooks a large turquoise pool… (An Aperol Spritz pls!) It ticks all the boxes: furnished with inevitable mid-century modern designer furniture (Eames, Aero Saaranen, Paola Lenti etc) and outdoor furnishings from the same designer as The Ace Hotel Palm Springs… While it oozes retro cool, it is comfortable to live in and has all the mod cons you’d expect from a Californian home including a nifty outdoor shower and fireplace.
Located a stone’s throw from the airport the house is relatively central – a few minutes’ drive from the restaurants and shops of Indian Canyon Drive. The airport is no Heathrow so don’t worry about being bothered by planes.
What We Love
The quintessential modernist feel and the subtle ‘white and turquoise’ theme both inside and outside. The backyard is generous in size, with a few palm trees and lovely views of the mountain ranges. It’s an uplifting place to spend a few days lounging at the pool. And it’s reasonably priced too.
