This new addition to the Palm Springs dining scene Workshop combines a sense of elegance with a sombre, industrial simplicity. NYC-based SOMA architecture firm kept the bones of the historic Spanish-style structure and stripped it right back revealing something extremely simple and quite beautiful. While there is an outdoor courtyard for sunny days (or balmy evenings) the pull of this place is the interior architecture – the dark and velvety space studded with small golden lights is a relief after the excesses of Palm Spring’s unrelenting sunshine. There are a number of shared tables but if you’re after intimacy, book a booth. The modern American menu is excellent – think locally sourced, seasonal produce. We enjoyed their ‘Palm Springer’ summer cocktail which promised to evoke ‘the kiss of an ex-lover only without the early morning awkwardness and wayward feelings’. They were right though there was a certain waywardness to the way our heads were feeling the next day.
