If you can bring yourself to break away from the pool and ditch the Modernist Houses guide, the Joshua Tree is one of California’s most spectacular national parks, known for its surreal rock formations and yucca trees, for which the park is named. The park is about an hour’s drive from Palm Springs – in addition to the usual hiking and camping activities, rock climbing is also popular. In the event that you stumble across a Mojave Desert Tortoise the park encourages you to send a photo using the Desert Tortoise App which helps keep track of the population of this rare species.

This beautiful time-lapse is by LA-based videographer and nature lover Henry Jun Wah Lee who occasionally runs timelapse workshops in Joshua Tree National Park, you’ll find details and more of his videos on Evosia Studio website.
