If you wake up in the arty Meatpacking district:  Cafe Gitane (inside the oh-so-hipster Jane Hotel) will serve you up a decent fruit-juice, coffee and their famous avocado toast for about $15  in a crumbling-Havana style atmos. The afternoon weekend brunch can be frantic so jet-lagged early risers will have the all-important edge.

Not far away is perennial favourite Pastis but you’ll have to wait until next Feb until this New York style French brasserie re-opens after renovations. (If you’re a forward planner – put this into your agenda.) It’s one of the most buzzing breakfast joints in NYC and if the sun is shining, you can always aim for a table on the terrace. Reservations recommended on weekends. In the meantime, if you want a hint of the Pastis experience head to Balthazar in the same restaurant group.
