Early-birds, this address is for you. Arrive early and attempt breakfast or brunch at Granger & Co, the Notting Hill outpost of Australia food star Bill Granger. Others will face long queues, as the restaurant is no-booking only.

Bill’s classics include Sweetcorn fritters served with bacon, spinach and roasted tomato; and the famous ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb butter (pictured). Coffees (flat whites) are excellent, as well as the fruit juices and smoothies. We like the classy, airy atmos combined with the laid-back Aussie-style service. Breakfasting here will put you within easy strolling distance of Portobello Market – which is a good or bad thing depending on your point of view.

For those staying further East – Granger recently opened a branch in Clerkenwell (50 Sekforde Street, London, EC1R 0HA). Here the crowds are a little less frenzied and yummy mummies wielding designer prams are thinner on the ground. We found portions a little small and the prices a little high, but the room overlooking a nearby park is quite lovely. It’s about a two minute walk from the Zetter Townhouse hotel and while it can get busy on the weekend, for now it’s quite peaceful during the week. From here it’s a pleasant 10 minute walk to the Tate Modern via St Paul’s Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge.
