For  extremely civilised cocktails pull up a perch at the lovely, pint-sized Blue Ribbon Downing Street Bar. Try the fiesty-sound ‘Bare Knuckle Cider’ or the wintery-themed ‘Snow Bird’ and soak up the atmosphere.

If you will forgive a diversion, we can’t help noting that this bar is a less than five minute stroll to the apparently superlative Sushi Nakazawa headed by Japanese chef Daisuke Nakazawa.  Nakawawa who previously worked at the legendary Tsukiji  Fish Market  in Tokyo  and subsequently apprenticed for sushi master Jiro Ono came to US attention when he appeared in the documentary “Jiro Dreams of Sushi“. (Great film –  check it out!) Reservations for the set tasting menu open 30 days in advance, good luck scoring one.
